Ambujakshi alias “Ambu” (Trisha), a film actress, arrives in Europe to spend the vacations with her friend Deepa (Sangeetha), a divorcee and her two children. While going in a taxi, Ambu recalls an early incident regarding her ex-boyfriend Madhanagopal alias Madhan (Madhavan), a wealthy entrepreneur: Three years ago, she was shooting for a film with actor Suriya in a bright park and Madhan was suspicious of her relationship with the actor. While returning, he lets Ambu drive his new car. Madhan advised Ambu to stop acting, but Ambu claimed it as her profession which she cannot give up, leading to an argument that caused their car to crash near a rock. At the same time they blamed a small white car that just passed by, to be the reason for the crash. Unable to bear any more arguments, Ambu broke her relationship with Madhan and walked away.

Agastya (Akshay Kumar) is a scientist, working on the development of a communication system, to communicate with aliens. But Agastya loses the faith of his seniors and is allotted with a deadline of one month to conclude his project with some substantial results.
In the mean time Agastya is informed by his girlfriend Diva (Sonakshi Sinha) about his father’s illness. On hearing this they both reaches his native village Paglapur, whose colourful inhabitants include a man who speaks in gibberish, another who thinks he is a lamp post and everyone else who think that the World War II is still going on.

Ambikapathy escapes to Chennai to fulfil his dreams and he earns a living by selling goods on a beach. He faces many hurdles along the way but manages to overcome them in his pursuit for happiness.

Mano (Bharath) loves Jo (Mallika Kapoor) and becomes her friend, hoping to help her win her love for Prem (Arun Vijay), whom she secretly loves. Then they both try to break Prem’s love with Nandhini (Deepu) and succeed. Mano realizes Jo’s deep love for Prem and tries to unite them. Mano succeeds in making Prem fall in love with Jo. Finally, Jo and Prem get married. During the story, the twists reveal that Mano had originally been in love with Jo but secretly tried to engage into her life by pretending to be in love with Nandhini. Soon after realising her true love for Prem, he sacrifices his love for her and brings Prem and Jo together. Only in the last several scenes does Jo realise Mano’s love for her, but she chooses to go with Prem.

Shakti (Madhavan) is a young man from a village with no job but much ambition and dreams. As he sees his life pass him by, stuck in a rut in his hometown, he decides that he will try his fortunes elsewhere. Chennai beckons him and off goes Shakti to join his uncle Kirikalam (Vadivelu), who has a stall of magic tricks at an exhibition. Kirikalam is not really a magician, but is posing as one, and his amateurish tricks don’t exactly bring in big crowds.
Next door to Shakti and Kirikalam’s stall though, is one ever-populated with visitors. The reason: it’s an all-girls stand, with mermaid costumes as the theme. Velli (Reema Sen) is the ‘head mermaid’ at this stall run by her sister, and bitter quarrels between her and Shakti ensue, when he feels that she and her team are unfairly taking their customers away, and she has this impression of him being an unsavory character. This misunderstanding is seen at different occasions where Velli and Shakti just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time — be it when Shakti gets off the bus from his village, asks for directions and is told to follow Velli, walking in the distance (Velli thinks he’s a womaniser) or when Shakti finally catches up with a miscreant who had picked his pocket and demands his money back — only Velli walks into the scene only at the demanding part. This whole collage of scenes is animated, with Kirikalam and Shakti trying to woo customers back to their stall, Shakti and Velli getting into arguments, and a general state of “fun” ruckus. Of course, love has been brewing as an undercurrent between the two young people.

Jeeva and Karthik meets the psychic,who reveals that Jeeva is having early precognitive symptoms.The story reveals further on the connection between the missing child and jeeva’s precognition.

Marudhu (Vijayakanth), farmer with a big heart, stays the up its elder sister Vallikannu (Srividya) married to a good-for-nothing, Chinnukaruppandevar (Goundamani), as well as his niece, foster daughter, beautiful Pandhimeena (Radha). Because one day, Meena, accompanied with her mother, asks for an explanation to the one who deceives with his father, this one throws her of out of the house. Marudhu was eaten up with remorse, he returns to look for Sandhiya to put her under cover. The next day, he puts him a new tent. The young woman, sensitive to all these attentions, eventually falls in love with the farmer and mutually. Marudhu learns by Gowryshankar, the sad episode, where Sandhiya had to be her daughter-in-law and finally it did not come true because his son left in the lurch them at the last moment. Since the old man denied him and set under his wing Sandhiya. Marudhu promises to him at this moment, when she will be his wife, to the immense happiness of this one. But Meena surprises the lovers without their knowledge. Later, Marudhu explains to Meena and to her elder sister, the tragic past of Sandhiya and cannot thus start again, at the moment its word.
