At a remote Dhaba in Atikapamala, 20 km from Suryapet, Vijayawada, a young boy named Nandu pulls out a gun and kills the local don, Vanka Suri. Sadhu and his gang plan to rob the local bank with the help of Nandu and a few other kids. The heist goes off smoothly, but Sadhu is betrayed to the police by one of his lieutenants, Narsing. At the local police station, the police beat up Sadhu, while the corrupt SI and Narsing divide the money between themselves. Nandu creates a distraction by causing a short circuit and escapes with Sadhu and another kid, Malli. Sadhu tells the two of them to run away and leave him, since the SI might find and kill them. Nandu calmly replies that he won’t, because he has already killed the SI.

Sameer Behl (Shahid Kapoor) comes to Mumbai with Bollywood dreams, struggles through the day as a courier boy, and keeps failing in auditions for advertisements. One day, a movie director named Rajeev Sharma (Mohnish Behl) sees Sameer dancing and calls him to his office. Soon, Sameer is signed as the male lead in his film, and his friend Tina (Genelia D’Souza) is selected as the choreographer on the same project. Homeless, Sameer sleeps in his car and works as a dance teacher in a school. Subsequently, Sameer loses his film and is disillusioned. Tina finds this out and asks him how he can spend his life like this. After some time, Tina tells him that she also quit the film and did not want to be the choreographer for that film because she saw him upset. Sameer realises the love Tina had for him. Tina encourages him to participate in a television talent-hunt show, the winner of which will win the same role that Sameer was to play. After some time, he agrees to participate in it. After filling up the contest form, he also says “I love you” to Tina. In his screen-test, Sameer dedicates his monologue to his mother. After his monologue, during the interview, he comes to know that his father’s shop in Delhi has been demolished. He promises Tina that he will come back for her and leaves to meet his father, heart-broken about the whole thing. After watching Sameer’s performance on TV, his father convinces him to go back to Mumbai and participate in the show.

But, Raja’s mother forced his father to let Raja study up-to class 2, without any work. But he refuses to fund him, and orders him to start work as accountant for their landlord. Raja’s dad is violent and an alcoholic. He spends the family’s income on alcohol. Raja’s family struggles to work hard everyday. Raja’s mom begs him to move to Mumbai to start a new life. Raja heeds his mom’s pleas and moves to Mumbai to attend Ramachandra Institute of Management Studies, the top-most premier b-school in India. The movie starts off at a train station on New Year Day, 1999. Raja talks with a person (Manivannan in the Tamil version, Anupam Kher in the Hindi version) who was well-wishing him. Due to insistence, Raja goes into a flash back. 3 years ago, he reaches Mumbai, where he plans to get admitted into the prestigious Ramachandra College of management, one of the most premier institutes in the nation.

Siva’s love fails and he is heartbroken. To console him, Guna shifts to city with Siva and his sister. Guna’s father had an illegal affair with a woman named Sitamma during their childhood, and on his deathbed, his father gets a promise from Guna that he should accommodate her with them as she does not have any relation. Guna, who lost his mother invites her to live with them. Sitamma accepts on condition that nobody in the family should know how she is related to them and also she should be introduced as a cook. Unwillingly, Guna accepts that. Guna, being a saxophone player, music director and lyricist, and Siva as a singer flourish in their career. Sitamma finds that Guna is a very affectionate person and Siva is a very sensitive person who cannot bear any downfalls in life even to a little extent.

He enlists the help of his manager Chirag Singh (Armaan Kohli) and Vijay’s secretary Sameera (Samaira Rao), Chirag is misguiding Ajay at every step while betraying him at his back. Yuvraj Vijay barely escapes an assassination plan coordinated by Yuvraj Ajay and Chirag to kill him but gets badly injured. He’s hidden in a secret chamber maintained by two doctors.

The film ends on a tragic note with Jayaprada demise.
