The film begins with a narration on how India has been turned into a landfill site for domestic and foreign countries, with the countries dumping even ammunition waste onto Indian soil. In Delhi, Balusamy, aka Balu (Arya), a communist leader, is convicted by the court on counts of robbery, murder and treason is given death sentence. Despite Balu’s request to execute him as a martyr by shooting, the court orders that he be hanged within a month’s time by a professional executioner or hangman. He is escorted to a high security prison complex in Chennai by Macaulay (Shaam), an honest, law abiding police officer who is given the charge of monitoring him until his execution. The prison provides freedom to all prisoners, including Balu, to do whatever they want, as long as they do not cause unrest. Balu is instantly admired by the inmates for his patriotism and philosophy as well as his empathy with the inmates. They view him as a spokesperson to the prison officials on behalf of them.

Newly married couple Akhilan (Arya) and Anbarasi (Renuka Menon) shift to their new house in Chennai. They live a happy life, even though their marriage was not love based at first. Soon, Anbarasi’s family came to visit them and left Anbarasi’s sister Kanmani (Akshaya), as she wants to pursue her studies in multimedia. As Kanmani stays with Anbarasi and Akhilan in the same house, she begins to develop feelings for Akhilan. Akhilan does not want to hurt his wife, who has now given birth. He seeks advice from a doctor on how to solve his problem. The doctor tells him to try and marry Kanmani off to her male cousin. Following Akhilan’s advice, Kanmani’s cousin decides to marry Kanmani, but she rejects him. One day, Kanmani’s cousin kidnaps her, rapes her, and leaves her at Akhilan’s apartment. This shocks everyone in the family, especially Akhilan. He admits to Kanmani about his action, and also told that the raping plan was not his advice. The whole family forces Kanmani to marry her cousin. The next morning, Kanmani committed suicide and died. Akhilan and Anbarasi, with their infant, go back to her village. Anbarasi’s aunt hits Kanmani’s husband as she thinks it was because of him Kanmani died. Akhilan, standing right beside him, was guilty because it was he who planned all this to avoid Kanmani disturbing his married life.

For astrological reasons, a father (Azhagan Thamizhmani) has to leave his son Rudran (Arya) in Kashi for 14 years. 14 years later, repenting his act, he goes with his daughter in search of the boy. He finds him there but is shocked to learn he has become an Aghori, a fierce and tigerish sadhu. He brings him back to Tamil Nadu as he had promised the boy’s mother. The story takes a turn here and introduces us to the world of physically and mentally challenged beggars, a world controlled by the cruel Thandavan (Rajendran). Hamsavalli (Pooja Umashankar) is a blind girl who was with a group of street actors, but on one day was forcefully separated from her troupe and made to join the beggars controlled by Thandavan. Soon, she becomes a victim of his cruelty. Meanwhile, Rudran leaves his house to find his place in a small cave near a hill temple. One day, Rudran’s mother comes to plead with him to come back to their house but is unsuccessful. Hamsavalli tries to convince Rudran to return to his house, but fails. Thandavan makes a deal with another man of the same profession to sell some of his beggars to him for a tidy profit. He forcefully takes the beggars away and returns with a man with a deformed face trying to force Hamsavalli to marry him for 10 lakhs worth of money. Thandavan orders his men to bring Hamsavalli, but they take her to Rudran. Rudran kills the new man and is arrested, but is soon let go. This agitates Thandavan. Hamsavalli seeks protection and solace from the church, but Thandavan finds her and tortures her as she refused to marry the deformed man, thus making him lose out on a good amount of money. Thandavan beats up Hamsavalli. Rudran is shown wounded in his forehead, with blood oozing out. In a flashback, Thandavan appears face-to-face against Rudran and fights him, the result of the fight being the wound. Rudran kills Thandavan. Hamsavalli finds her way to Rudran and beseeches him to free her from her misery and the earthly life. Rudran slashes her throat and performs her last rites. In the final scene of the movie, Rudran returns to his guru in Kashi.

Veera is a playboy who is rejected by every potential bride. Thendral accepts the marriage proposal with one condition. She demands that he impress her and asks him to take her on a trip in order to know each other better. She also suggests him to bring along another couple. Veera informs his friend Vasu, who tells him that he has a girlfriend, Kavya, who is Veera’s ex-girlfriend. When Kavya learns about Vasu’s friendship with Veera, she vows to get her hands on him during the trip. The couple travels to Thailand and rents a bungalow. Their host asks them not to open a particular room in that bungalow. One day, Veera and Vasu consume Viagra by accident, and when their girlfriends arrive earlier than expected, they run into the closed room. There they find a portrait of a woman and masturbate, thereby arousing the ghost. The ghost begins to haunt them. It reveals that it died in an accident as a virgin and will have sex with a virgin to rest her soul. Since both of them are virgins, they are unable to leave the house. The ghost tries several attempts to have sex with Vasu and Veera. They make fun of the ghost, but all their plans go in vain as she takes the form of a beautiful woman. Since the ladies know that the ghost is present, they call Jack and Rose, two conmen disguised as father and nun respectively. When Jack and Rose encounter the ghost, they are trapped since they are virgins. They come up with a plan to have a party in which they invite boys and girls, hoping one of them should be a virgin, but no one is. Veera thinks his playboy nature is responsible for all this fiasco and decides to have sex with the ghost. Veera almost seduces the ghost, but in the process puts a fire boundary around the ghost on the advice of Swamy, a priest. While Swamy controls the ghost, all the others have sex and lose their virginity, which results in the ghost getting killed.

The movie begins with the marriage of John (Arya) and Regina (Nayantara) at a church. The marriage is an arranged one, to which both have consented reluctantly to make their parents happy. After the marriage they live together as strangers in an apartment, where the neighbors are upset with John who comes home drunk every night, which he does deliberately to annoy Regina. Eventually, Regina applies for a transfer to Australia to stay away from John.

After their wedding, Ammu moves to Bangalore as Prasad is settled there. Kutty too relocates to Bangalore for his job, while Ajju joins a biker gang as a mechanic in the same city.

The film opens with a bully fight between two individuals on a rainy night in a deep, dark forest. In the opening scene, a title card is presented with a Upanishad quote: “Death is just the beginning of another life”.
Karthik (Arya) is a young happy-go-lucky carefree architect, who, one day, comes across a young beautiful girl, Sandhya (Trisha Krishnan) in a go-karting race. One day, Sandhya’s parents tell her about her to-be-fixed marriage. She finally recognizes that Karthik is apparently the right match, and slowly develops a deep love for him. She wholeheartedly agrees with the marriage.

Satya (Arya) planned to meet his friends after five years of leaving college. Unfortunately, his father comes only to inform that Satya is in a coma. In a psycho test conducted by his doctor (Charuhasan), Satya reveals some of the incidents that happened in the early years of his college life. He is in love with Jothi (Sonia Agarwal), who soon entered the same college he studies, but he never confesses his love to her, and it lasted until the farewell day as he heard Jothi advising her friend about this. Satya’s friends decided to follow a treatment which will help Satya wake up from the coma. When they search for Jothi at her house, it was found out that she is already engaged. The group of students then turned their modern college to an old college as it was in the year 2000. Satya was brought here and began to believe that it was the same time he studied there and fell in love with Jothi. He waits till the farewell day. On the night before the farewell day, he found out that the current situation he is facing is not the real one, and he realizes that it is 2005. he began to remember what happened on the farewell day. Satya waits for Jothi outside a temple to confess his love when someone hits his head. He wakes up and comes back to the present day. On the last day, his friends forced him to propose to Jothi. Satya then talks to Jothi and then walks away, but suddenly, Jothi comes running towards him and tells him that she needs him and regrets why she wasted five years not knowing his love for her. They then hugged each other as the college students cheered them.

Kumar (Cheran) is a young man who comes from Thiruvannamalai to Chennai with dreams and hopes about the future. He gets a job in a men’s beauty parlor in Chennai. Every day, he observes and learns more about life in the city. He starts to dream and build castles in the air.
Maheswari (Navya Nair) works in another beauty parlor and also has desires of her own.
The rest of the story is about what happens to these two people. This three hour-long film has similar themes compared to Cheran’s previous films. The key message in this movie is that each person’s life is in his or her own hands.

It is revealed that Sekar (Arya) returns to his village after getting selected as a Police. He falls in love with Meena (Preetika). But when their romance is revealed, Sekar’s family resists the relationship due to class differences. A dejected Sekar leaves to begin training as a police officer. There he becomes acquainted with Ammaiappan (Anoop kumar), a young colleague. He comes to know that Ammayappan is in love with his uncle’s daughter. A sequence of events reveals that both men love the same girl Meena. Returning to the film’s contemporary setting, we find that Arjun and Anu after crossing several hurdles in their journey reach their respective houses. They then realise that they have fallen for each other. Meanwhile, the film employs a Deus Ex Machina, in the form of Anu’s father, to ensure all story arcs are resolved. When Anu’s father Ammaiappan realiases that Anu is in love with Sekar’s son he immediately approves of their relationship. It is implied that Anu and Arjun are then to stay together.

Kumbudraen Saamy (Arya) is a skilled thief who cons people for a living. His cross-eyed half-brother Walter Vanangamudi (Vishal Krishna)is not so good at at the same trade. They are born to the same father but to different mothers. The two men quarrel frequently and Saamy often pokes fun at Walter’s shortcomings. Highness (GM Kumar) as he is dearly called by the brothers is a local zamindar who enjoy’s the company of both Saamy and Walter and takes an affinity toward them and treats them as his own family. Once, a masked Walter breaks into Police Constable Baby’s (Janani Iyer) house, but she recognizes the man and thwarts his attempt to rob them. Later they develop a fondness for each other, mostly born out of Walter’s childish nature and submission to Baby’s persuasiveness. Saamy too develops a relationship with Thenmozhi (Madhu Shalini) who cons him by giving him her fake gold bangles.

Burma joins Gurupaadham’s gang and becomes an important henchman. His daughter falls for Burma, but he is now tinged with revenge since his father was kicked out of Gurupaadham’s gang.

The film doffs its hat at the older film by introducing its protagonist in underwear as he has forgotten to wear pants. This condition of Rajini is a constant source of embarrassment to his parents Ramanathan (Aadukalam Naren) and Lakshmi (Uma Padmanabhan), as they cannot find a suitable match for him. One prospective girl’s father Sathyamoorthy (Sampath Raj) insults Rajini because of this. As fate would have it, Rajini ends up falling in love with Sathyamoorthy’s daughter Vandhana (Sayyeshaa), but she is unaware of his forgetfulness. How long can he continue with this facade, especially with Ajay (Lijeesh), a cop who wants to marry Vandhana and is trying to expose him?

On the D-day, Chandru is distracted by the memories of his love affair and loses the race and his auto. Later, Bigilu comes to know about the affair. The subplot of a smuggler’s search for missing pearls adds flavour to the proceedings. The unpredictable and fun-filled climax puts everything in order.

Soundarya aka sweety (Anushka Shetty) is a carefree working girl, who is a foodie and enjoys her life to the fullest. But her mother (Urvashi) is worried about her obese daughter and all the grooms that she finds reject Sweety as she is fat. Irandam Ulagam is about two stories which unfold concurrently in two different planets – our Earth and an unnamed exoplanet.[2] On earth a timid medical student Ramya (Anushka Shetty) who has a crush on an academic mathematician Madhu Balakrishnan (Arya), asks him out. He initially refuses her proposal for marriage as his father is an invalid needing his full attention and care. Later, Madhu gradually reciprocates Ramya’s love seeing her caring nature and proposes marriage. But, she reluctantly rejects his proposal as her family has already arranged her marriage. While on a trip to Goa, Madhu wins Ramya’s heart while her fiancé abruptly cancels the marriage citing dowry as the reason. She suddenly dies in a freak accident and this is followed by Madhu’s paralysed father’s death too. Depressed by the sudden twin tragedies, Madhu becomes a vagabond in Goa. He sees an apparition of his dead father that tells him death is an illusion. Later, at a local tourist spot, he follows an empty car to a hilltop and tries to commit suicide. He gets injured and faints while trying to drive the car.
The story moves parallel in the alternate world in a relatively primitive kingdom which protects the immortal Amma. The son of a noble military commander, Maravan (Arya), falls in love with a working class orphan Varna (Anushka Shetty). Maravan, though fearless, does not take interest in martial arts and roams around the kingdom drinking with his friends. Varna, on the other hand, is interested in a military career though she picks and packs wild mushrooms to eke out a living. She also has the desire to protect Amma from the enemies of the kingdom. While gatecrashing a military admissions exam for Amma’s protection, the tyrant king condemns Varna to his harem. Maravan pleads with the king to release Varna and the king in return challenges Maravan to get hold of a lion’s skin within three days. Maravan, though inexperienced, fights with the lion that has never been conquered until then and gets Varna released. At the behest of the king, Varna is forced to marry Maravan, which goes against her free will. So, she tries to commit suicide after assaulting the king. But Amma saves her and the riled king exiles her to the forest. Depressed Maravan tries to commit suicide in vain. Taunted by new military recruits, Maravan climbs a sacred mountain called Swamimalai.
Meanwhile, with the special powers of Amma, an inter-planetary portal opens briefly between Maravan in Swamimalai and Madhu in Goa. Maravan rescues the fainted Madhu from the car and takes him to Amma for treatment. People of the kingdom celebrate Madhu mistake him for an angel. Enemies lay siege to the kingdom and try to kidnap Amma but intoxicated Maravan fights them off with the help of Varna, who returns from the forest. When Madhu looks at Varna (who looks like Ramya), flowers begin to bloom in the kingdom for the first time. But the timid people force Varna back into the forests. Later Maravan’s bravery is rewarded by his father and king who admits him into military service. Maravan, with new-found confidence, goes into the forest to meet Varna with food and blankets. But she rejects him again. Madhu too goes into the forest to meet Varna. This time, Varna accepts his friendship. Marvan gets jealous of Madhu. A stormy night forces Varna to eventually return to the kingdom from the forest. The enemies of the kingdom capture Amma while the irate king sends Maravan for execution for illegally housing Varna. Maravan is captured by the enemy troops while abducting Amma. Madhu and Varna set out through forest to find Maravan and Amma. Varna eventually realises that she had fallen in love with her husband Maravan after hearing about Ramya. Maravan bravely wipes out the entire army of the enemy and escapes with Amma on a boat. But Madhu is drowned in combat. Amma stops Varna and Maravan from saving him. Then an inter-planetary portal opens briefly again and Madhu lands in another unnamed exoplanet where he finally meets his soulmate Ramya look-alike again. He earnestly asks her if she is single. Finally he realises that it is his true destiny.
