Vaagai Sooda Vaa 2011
The story is set in the 1960s. Veluthambi alias Velu (Vimal) is a graduate aspiring for a government job. His father Annamalai (Bhagyaraj) advises him to work temporarily for a NGO that helps in educating rural children so that he will be given a priority for government job. Velu, although uninterested, joins the NGO and gets appointed as a teacher in a small dry village which lacks basic facilities. The entire village works for a rich landlord JP (Ponvannan), who owns a brick factory. Velu tries to convince the villagers to send their kids to learn, but in vain.
Madhiarasi alias Madhi (Iniya) owns a tea shop in the village and falls in love in Velu. Also the village kids play pranks on Velu, which irritates him. Velu understands that the villagers are exploited by JP, owing to their illiteracy by not paying them properly. Velu tries to make the villagers understand JP’s true colour, but they don’t believe him as they see JP as their savior.
Finally, the villagers understand that they are being cheated, and they demand proper payment for the bricks made by them. They also realize the value of education and send their kids to learn under Velu. Now Velu gets a government job but turns down the offer as he prefers to continue working for the NGO which gives him satisfaction. In a few days, he gets a letter from the NGO stating it is closing down due to financial difficulties. Velu worries as he is jobless and decides to work along with villagers in making bricks. But the villagers come for the rescue and want him to continue as a teacher for their kids, and in turn they agree to pay him. Velu also marries Madhi, and the movie ends with him feeling proud that the villagers understood the value of education.
Mr. Chandramouli 2018
The movie starts of with Azhagar, the CEO of a taxi business, receiving an award and GoCabs CEO Vinayak congratulating him. Then, it shows Chandramouli waiting in traffic with a green Premier Padmini. He arrives at his son Raghav’s boxing match, and they argue about the car. Afterward, we learn about Madhu, Raghav’s girlfriend, and a flashback reveals that they met after Chandramouli accidentally hit the back of Madhu’s Vespa. Later on, there has been a series of crimes involving GoCab drivers, and Vinayak cannot sponsor Raghav for the state championships, so he decides to go to Azhagar for a sponsorship. He goes on to win the state championships, and the prize is a Suzuki Baleno. Chandramouli asks Raghav to go for a drive with him, to which he agrees. During the drive, their Padmini gets in an accident with a lorry, and Pugazhendhi, Azhagar’s assistant, beats Chandramouli to death. Raghav later wakes up in a hospital, and learns that due to the accident, he can only see two feet in front of him, and also learns that his father is dead. A couple weeks later, Raghav receives a death certificate for a person called Bairavi. We later learn in a flashback that she and Chandramouli were close friends, and that she was killed by Pugazh and his men. The rest of the story is about how Raghav finds out why they killed Bairavi and Chandramouli.
Anbe Sivam 2003
Nallasivam (Kamal Haasan) and Anbarasu (Madhavan) are drawn together by the strings of fate after they come into contact at the Bhuvaneshwar airport. Anbarasu is an advertisement director, while Nallasivam is a trade unionist. Fate entwines their travel plans, and they end up travelling to Chennai together. In the course of their journey, Anbarasu, born with a golden spoon, is touched by the realities of the sufferings of a normal human being when he witnesses the dead and the injured during a train accident, and he volunteers to donate his blood, which is of a very rare group, despite his fear of blood. The flashback of Nallasivam is recounted during one of their journeys. Nallasivam is a communist trade unionist, who fights for higher wages for his comrades. By chance, he falls in love with the daughter Bala (Kiran) of a rich industrialist, Bala’s father, Padaiyacchi (Nasser).
Run 2002
Siva (R. Madhavan) is based out of Srirangam and he comes to Chennai to join a college. He stays with his sister (Anu Hasan) and her husband (Raghuvaran). Siva does not like his brother-in-law and never talks to him, despite several attempts made by his sister to convince both.
Siva meets Priya (Meera Jasmine) during a bus journey, and it is love at first sight for him. He again meets her on a few more occasions and proposes his love, but she warns him to stop following her despite liking him. Siva understands that Priya’s brother Bhaskar (Atul Kulkarni) is a local goon, and he attacks anyone who follows his sister.
Dum 2003
Satya (Silambarasan) is the son of a police constable. He gets into fights and ends up in jail where his own father gets him out on bail. While he is returning home from a party drunk, a group of college students beat him up. That is when Suchitra (Rakshitha) comes and takes him to the hospital and gives blood. She is the daughter of a police commissioner. Later, Satya falls in love with Suchitra. That leads to several problems which are faced bravely by Satya in the later part of the film. Finally, all goes well, and Satya also receives the letter confirming his selection for IPS.
