Santhanakrishnan, a failed writer, marries Mary who inspires him to write from real-life experiences. He sets out to write about Yuvan who loves Mary without knowing that she is already married.

Despite being the sole heir to a large fortune, Shanmugam is forced to work as a servant by his aunt. Circumstances force him to marry Kannamma even though he is in love with Sakunthala.

Selvam averts a mishap and returns to his village to find his lover Bhagyam. Unable to find Bhagyam and unaware of her life in isolation, he marries another woman. But time springs a surprise and his own son turns into his biggest foe. Tied down by broken promises, what does the future hold for them ?

Jeeva (Ajith Kumar) lives with his grandmother (Radha Bhai) in Madurai and says he would marry the girl he likes at first sight. He goes to Chennai after getting a job as a bank manager there. In a shopping mall, he gets a glimpse of Divya (Simran) and falls in love. He identifies her scooter model and goes on a mission in search of her to end up in a colony surrounded by comedians (Dhandabani (Goundamani), Michael Jackson (Senthil), Major (Venniradai Moorthy), James Thomson (Dhamu), Savithri (Kovai Sarala)). The colony people mistakenly thought that Jeeva is trying to steal the scooter, and therefore he lied that he was looking for a house to rent. Then, he agreed to stay in the colony after confirming that Divya and her mother Janaki (Sujatha) are residing in the colony.

The movie begins with Jeeva (Ajith Kumar), a driving instructor, leading a happy life with his mother (Sujatha). He also fell in love with Swapna (Pooja Umashankar) after several mishaps. Sujatha hides the Jeeva truth that his father (Nizhalgal Ravi), was murdered by a dada named Manthiram (Babu Antony). The mother, much against the boy’s wish, packs off Jeeva’s twin brother, Guru (also Ajith Kumar) with a family who offer to adopt him, who had been witness to the murderer from a close quarter, to a distant town. He escapes from the family and goes to Tuticorin and grows to become a gangster there.
When Jeeva visits Tuticorin, he comes across his elder brother, Guru a.k.a. Thala. Seizing the opportunity, the elder brother kidnaps the younger one and decides to go as the driving instructor to Chennai. Initially, he plans to take revenge on his mother for packing him off from their house at a very young age. He hurts her at every step and even plans to sell off all their property.

Harish is a good-for-nothing happy-go-lucky-guy who idles away his time in his village. He is a consummate liar and always tries to boast of himself through lies. With lies he tries to impress his friends and villagers boasting of his romantic escapades. And one such lie involving a village belle (played by Malavika Menon) lands him in troubles. How he extricates himself from these troubles forms the rest of the story.
