Amarkant Varma (Shahrukh Khan) is a program executive for All India Radio, dispatched from New Delhi to cover festivities in Assam. On his way there, during a rainy night, Amar stops at Haflong train station to catch the Barak Valley Express. As he waits, he tries to have a smoke and asks a mysterious person for either a match or a lighter. Suddenly a strong gust of wind blows the shawl off the person, revealing it to be woman (Manisha Koirala). Amar finds her very attractive and tries to strike up a conversation, but she ignores him for a bit and then asks him for a cup of tea. When he returns with the tea, he watches as she boards the next train with three male passengers and rides off into the distance.

A Man Happens to stop a caste fight in a village,the villagers ask him to remain and help with their conflicts.thus inciting the wrath of the biggest Bad man in the village, a man who killed his own brother for marrying into a different caste. Vishwa (Prashanth) spends his time hanging out with Anandham (Charlie) to avoid his mother (Ambika), who always quarrels with his dad (Manivannan). To find peace, he plays tricks on others. When Menaka dares him to go to Delhi to deliver a letter to Thilothama, Shiva ends up falling in love with Thilothama, but she is unable to reveal her love to Shiva and her father, as she fears the consequences. Are the lovers able to declare their love for each other and get united? Does Rudran take to it kindly?

Manimaran (Sarath Kumar), his father Poochi (S. V. Ramadas), and his grandfather Nagappan (M. N. Nambiar) are short-tempered persons who beat the villagers for a simple quarrel. Only, Manimaran’s mother, Sivagami (Lakshmi) can control them. Uma (Rajeswari), Manimaran’s sister, gets married to a man of another village. Manimaran falls in love with Vaidehi (Devayani), a Brahmin girl, and gets married to her without her permission. In a fight against Manimaran, the antagonist becomes blind in one eye and decides to take revenge on Manimaran. When Manimaran drives his pregnant sister, the antagonist stops him but Manimaran beats the antagonist and his henchmen. Uma comes too late at the hospital and dies with her baby. Vaidehi leaves their house because of her husband’s behaviour who brings Uma’s death. Manimaran changes his behaviour and tries to convince Vaidehi to come back home.

When a young street dancer learns that his mother is still alive, he tries every possible way to meet her and reunite his parents.

Vanaja (Fathima Babu) is full of gratitude when Varadarajan (Manivannan), a scheming politician, generously helps her daughter Swarnamukhi (Devayani), perform her arangetram in a local temple, but she does not know the man she is being grateful to and is forced to become his mistress to safeguard her daughter’s future.

Rasu Padayachi has dedicated his life for the welfare of the village people. When the Muslim peoples of the surrounding villages wanted to buy one of his lands to build a Mosque there, Rasu Padayachi refuses their money and he gives them his land for free.
In the village Sundarapuram, Manimaran (Ranjith) is a respected village chief who lives with his parents (M. N. Rajam and K. K. Soundar). Manimaran and his cousin Mannaru (Mansoor Ali Khan) are known for being short-tempered persons.

Ayya hates his first daughter Gowri (Sithara) and her husband (Mansoor Ali Khan). Prabhavathy (Simran), Ayya’s younger daughter, arrives at the village after completing her education from the US. Prabhavathy loves Chinnayya but he does not reciprocate, thinking this would be a betrayal of Ayya’s trust in him. Later, Chinnayya too understands Prabhavathy’s love and accepts it.

Jeeva (Ajith Kumar) lives with his grandmother (Radha Bhai) in Madurai and says he would marry the girl he likes at first sight. He goes to Chennai after getting a job as a bank manager there. In a shopping mall, he gets a glimpse of Divya (Simran) and falls in love. He identifies her scooter model and goes on a mission in search of her to end up in a colony surrounded by comedians (Dhandabani (Goundamani), Michael Jackson (Senthil), Major (Venniradai Moorthy), James Thomson (Dhamu), Savithri (Kovai Sarala)). The colony people mistakenly thought that Jeeva is trying to steal the scooter, and therefore he lied that he was looking for a house to rent. Then, he agreed to stay in the colony after confirming that Divya and her mother Janaki (Sujatha) are residing in the colony.

Vasanth (Prashanth), a rich guy meets a girl (Simran) in Coimbatore railway station while travelling to Chennai to join engineering and it is love at first sight for Vasanth. Shankar (Karan) also studies in same college where Vasanth joins and initially both Vasanth and Shankar develop clashes. Priya (Simran) is the sister of Shankar and without knowing that Vasanth meets Priya on a few more situations in Chennai and conveys his love towards her but Priya does not reciprocate and keeps distance with Vasanth.

Ramalingam (Kamal Haasan) & Sundaralingam (Prabhu Deva) are simpletons who are always in search of ways to earn a quick buck. Sundaralingam is an artist with good talent, while Ramalingam is the business brain who brings in money, mostly by fraudulent means. They fall in love — Sundaralingam with Janaki (Rambha) and Ramalingam with Sundari (Soundarya). Both are students of art.
Janaki’s father Paramasivam (M. S. Viswanathan) rejects Sundaralingam. Sundari convinces Janaki to write letters falsifying Sundaralingam’s rise to fame and big money, eventually lying that Janaki & Sundaralingam now have a son, in order to win over the parents with sentiment. Janaki’s dad, worried that his grandson might be brought up poorly, arrives at a mansion that has been set up to look like Sundaralingam’s new property, along with her mom Parbathy (Srividya). Meanwhile, Sundari’s dad Balamurugan (Moulee) also makes an unexpected stop there to check on his daughter.
