Mysterious deaths occur in a village due to an unknown person’s occult practices. The whole town is afraid, and the problems continue as they search for the one responsible.

Vijay Kumar (Vijay) is an honest and sincere DCP of Chennai. He takes up a case involving the rape and subsequent death of an IT employee Raji. He finds out that the rapist is Ashwin, the son of Labour Minister Vanamaamalai (J. Mahendran). Vijay kills Ashwin and reveals himself as the murderer to Vanamaamalai, who swears to take revenge on him for killing his son. Meanwhile, Vijay falls in love with a medical student Mithra (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) and both eventually get married and lead a happy life. But, Vijay’s happiness is short-lived as Vanamaamalai, his younger brother Ratnam (Azhagam Perumal) and their henchmen barge into his house one night and kill Mithra and Vijay’s mother (Raadhika). They even brutally assault Vijay and attempt to drown Vijay’s baby daughter Niveditha aka Nivi in the bathtub. The dying Mithra manages to rescue Nivi and asks Vijay to take care of her, but not before making him promise that he will quit the police and be a peaceful and loving father to Nivi, following which she dies in Vijay’s arms. Vijay fakes his death, changes his name to Joseph Kuruvilla, maintains a low profile and moves to Kerala with Nivi and his constable friend Rajendran (Rajendran) to protect Nivi from Vanamaamalai and his gang.

The film starts with Ashok Kumar aka AK (Ajith Kumar) setting bombs in three places and informing the police about them. Before the police arrive, the bombs are set off. AK, along with his lady love Maya (Nayanthara), threatens her old college mate hacker Arjun (Arya), who is forced to hack one system after another. AK then threatens Sriram Raghavan (Aadukalam Naren) by trying to kill his child so that he can extract the truth about black money. AK then murders Sriram. Arjun, who is irritated by the things happening around him, complains about AK’s misdeeds to Inspector Prakash (Kishore). When AK gets closer to achieving his goals, Arjun gives him away to the police, and both are arrested. Arjun is later released after his true identity is revealed.

Karuppusamy (Karan) is a happy-go-lucky guy who is a small-time contractor for cycle stands. When not at work, he kills time with his friends, taking part in their mimicry troupe where he is famous for his Rajini look-alike acts. Life goes on for the protagonist until Raasathi (Meenakshi) stumbles upon his life. An aspiring medical student, she relates Karuppusamy’s benevolence to her late mother’s. Soon after, they both become victims of the stupid cupid’s bait.
Although in love with the uncle, Karuppusamy insists that education should be her priority over romance. Besides, their love affair wreaks havoc in Raasathi’s upper caste family, which is known for cast prejudices.

Venu (Mohanlal) is a high-profile news cameraman working in Reuters. He graduated from a premier film institute but preferred to shoot news rather than the manipulated visuals for movies. He is mostly based in Delhi but has come to Kochi to appear for a case in which he is involved. He is assigned to cover a case involving a local politician where he gets to meet Renuka (Amala Paul). Renuka is the executive editor of Bharath Vision and Venu and Renuka have a story to tell of their own. A flashback tells the story about how two lovers turned into foes.

Despite the premise offering the opportunity to narrate this story as a gritty action drama, Rajkumar chooses to tell it in a lighter, satirical vein.

Venki (Prithviraj) is an entrance coaching professor by day and robs automated teller machines (ATMs) using fake debit cards by night. He has been operating out of Kochi for the past three months and the Imperial Bank of India (IBI) is the target of all these robberies. ACP Harris (Jayasurya) is in charge of the investigation. But the managing director of the bank, Nandakumar Menon (Biju Menon), is not happy with the way the investigations are proceeding as the cops have been harassing the bank’s customers. The bank authorities have ruled out a problem in their systems as the same system is used by other banks. The other banks are not yet a target. All the transactions done by the robber have been using a debit card. Nandakumar Menon decides to conduct an investigation in parallel with the cops.
