Surya (Allu Arjun) is an soldier in the Indian Army who suffers from anger management issues and dreams of being posted at the LOC. After getting into a brawl at a local club and attacking Inspector Pradeep Negi (Ravi Kale) and stealing the latter’s gun, Surya uses it to shoot dead a terrorist right when the officer comes to ask for his gun from Surya’s senior Col. Sanjay Shrivastav (Boman Irani). After being court martialled for indisciplinary action, Surya’s godfather (Rao Ramesh) requests Shrivastav to give Surya a final chance. Shrivastav agrees on the condition that Surya gets a signature of approval from the country’s top psychologist and the Dean of the Institution of Psychology and Foreign Languages, Dr. Ramakrishna Raju (Arjun Sarja), who happens to be Surya’s estranged father.

Jyothi Lingam (Mahesh) is a bright student and son of a mason who leads a happy life in his village near Tirunelveli. One day tragedy strikes as his father, the only earning member of the family, dies in an accident while crossing an unmanned railway gate. Mahesh now has to look after his mother and two sisters. Due to circumstances, he is forced to abandon his studies, even though he comes first in his school in the board exams. Through a canvassing agent, he and his friend Marimuthu, get jobs as sales boys in a textile showroom in Ranganathan Street in Chennai. Mahesh, along with hundreds of others, are employed at the Senthil Murugan Stores run by the big Annachi. On each floor at the textile showroom, there are around 50 to 60 sales boys and girls who work in pitiable conditions from early in the morning to late night, without any rest. He meets Kani (Anjali), a fiery independent girl.

The movie starts with Raghu (Jai) trying to kill his father for not taking good care of his family. That is when he comes to know that he owns an ancestral property in Kasi which was given as lease almost 100 years ago. At the same time, an IT raid takes place in a minister’s house. The minister hands the laptop having his property detail to his auditor, who demands 5 crores to hand over the laptop. In Kasi, Raghu’s ancestral property is taken care by Seenu (Jiiva), but he is unsuccessful. It is then showed that Seenu and Raghu had been cheated by Ganesh (Shiva). They move to Karaikudi to get hold of Ganesh and get back their money. Meanwhile, the minister starts his journey to get back the laptop. How Raghu and Seenu get back their money and how the minister gets back the laptop forms the rest of the story.

Deepika (Bhavana) is an arrogant rich girl. A medical college student, she dictates terms at the college. Sister of local don Kasi (Prakash Raj), she is feared by students, professors and even the Dean of the College. Enter Aarya (Madhavan), a final year student who comes to Chennai Medical College from Coimbatore. A soft-spoken Aarya runs into Deepika. They develop cold shoulders. In a fit of rage, she kidnaps Aarya’s sister. But Aarya faces her challenges daringly. However, she soon falls in love with him. But he is not ready to marry the sister of a ruffian. The remaining story tells us how the brother and sister put pressure on Aarya to become a rowdy so that Aarya’s status is equal enough as Kasi’s status so that Aarya can marry Kasi’s sister Deepika. Meanwhile, “Snake” Babu (Vadivelu) is elected the area councillor, and has a few encounters with Dr. Aarya, and one with Deepika. He is the main source of comic relief for the film.
