Archana (Sridevi) is a popular singer, and Johnny (Rajinikanth) is her ardent fan. Johnny is a conman who does petty thefts (only on the greedy ones) to close the loan taken by his father. He never misses Archana’s concerts, and she notices this. A tender love develops between the two, but Johnny is guarded in accepting Archana’s love due to his not-so-clean background. But one day Johnny accepts Archana’s love when she proposes to him. Meanwhile, Vidyasagar (Rajinikanth), a barber and lookalike of Johnny, lives a lonely life with his assortment of pet animals. He falls for Bhama (Deepa), another loner, and they both plan to marry. Vidyasagar notices his lover’s infidelity and kills her in rage. Knowing about his lookalike Johnny and knowing that he is wanted by the police, he tries to pass on the murder charge to him and gives up on women as well looking at them in low light.

The film revolves around Madhavan Nair (Nedumudi Venu), who unknowingly kills a teenager, and his eldest son Raja takes the blame and is sentenced to jail for five years. After returning from jail, his father refuses to accept him still with no knowledge that his son was innocent, and so Raja moves to Madurai and there he rescues the life of the son of Maniannan (Charan Raj), the village landlord, and then Raja turns his right hand and is named as Madurai Raja. Years later, he started being known as Pokkiri Raja (Mammootty).
Meanwhile, Surya (Pritviraj), Madhavan Nair’s younger son, is a young, energetic, educated, naughty guy who is well-famous for his rowdyism in his village. He is sent to Ernakulam to his brother-in-law Sugunan (Suraj Venjaramoodu) to change his character, who is a scary cat. At Ernakulam, Surya falls in love with Aswathy (Shriya Saran), unknowing that she is the daughter of Rajendra Babu (Siddique), the City Police Commissioner. Sugunan takes advantage of Surya’s character and sends him in his uniform to take care of some severe police cases. Surya gets arrested for this offence. Rajendra Babu finds that Surya is in love with his daughter and charges Surya with another drugs case and makes it a non-bailable offence. Meanwhile, Rajendra Babu plans to murder Surya in jail, and he gives the contract to Pokkiri Raja. At this point, Madhavan Nair goes to Madurai in search of his elder son who left for Madurai 10 years back, and asks for his help to rescue his younger son Surya. After realising that Surya is his brother, Raja starts the game to help his family and end Rajendra Babu.

A lawyer turns judge jury and executioner and goes after a gang, led by a minister’s son, that threatens women with videos of them.

Sridhar (Ajith Kumar) is from a middle-class family headed by his father (K. Vishwanath). Shiva (Raghuvaran) is Sridhar’s elder brother and the breadwinner for the family consisting of his wife Shantha (Sithara) and sister (Preitha Raghav). Sridhar, upon completion of his graduation, aspires to become a music director and tries hard to secure a chance in movies, but all his efforts go in vain. Sridhar’s search for a chance continues for 8 years. Despite that, his family members support him very well and encourage him whenever he feels dejected.

Veerabhagu, a powerful don, disapproves of his daughter Anjali’s relationship with Guru. He tries several ways to keep them away from each other.

A kabaddi team faces several struggles while competing in a national-level championship.

A couple leads a content life with their daughter in Bengaluru. However, when the daughter is sexually assaulted by an inebriated stranger, the couple sets out to seek justice for her.

Arjun (Shaam) heads a dance troupe and Priya (Tanu Roy), one of the dancers in the troupe is in love with him. Their aim is to be the permanent fixture at the hotel of Giriprasad (Richard Rishi), a millionaire. They lose the competition but still see their dream realised when the lead dancer in the winning troupe dies. Soon, Giriprasad falls for Priya and his sincerity makes her reciprocate his feelings.

The film details on how the parents of a young teen aged boy diagnosed with chronic brain tumor accept and deal with his sickness, Anjali (Richa Ahuja)’s undeterred love for the optimistic Ajay who is on the verge of death is beautifully depicted throughout the film.
