Nallasivam (Kamal Haasan) and Anbarasu (Madhavan) are drawn together by the strings of fate after they come into contact at the Bhuvaneshwar airport. Anbarasu is an advertisement director, while Nallasivam is a trade unionist. Fate entwines their travel plans, and they end up travelling to Chennai together. In the course of their journey, Anbarasu, born with a golden spoon, is touched by the realities of the sufferings of a normal human being when he witnesses the dead and the injured during a train accident, and he volunteers to donate his blood, which is of a very rare group, despite his fear of blood. The flashback of Nallasivam is recounted during one of their journeys. Nallasivam is a communist trade unionist, who fights for higher wages for his comrades. By chance, he falls in love with the daughter Bala (Kiran) of a rich industrialist, Bala’s father, Padaiyacchi (Nasser).

Adolfo, a thirty something security guard, is going through a bad patch. A gang has kidnapped a girl and several police officers, including Karthik (Sibiraj), who is attempting to rescue her. During a shootout, one man from the gang and a police officer Arul (Raghav Umasrinivasan), who is a good friend of Karthik, are killed, while Karthik gets injured. He is put out of action and suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder.
Subramani (Idoh) is a trained military dog who has the potential to nab culprits and to decipher a crime scene. After its owner, an army officer, is shot dead, Subramani is returned to the officer’s father in Coimbatore, who is a neighbor of Karthik. The neighbor leaves the town and requests Karthik to provide shelter to Subramani during his absence. Karthik denies the request but provides shelter after seeing Subramani being troubled the small kids in the neighborhood. Karthik learns about Subramani and becomes good friends with it.

Two youngsters in the pursuit to become the leaders of their gang without violence, find themselves in an uncanny situation that would change their lives forever.

Kumar (Siddharth) is a software engineer who lives in a joint family. All of the marriages in his family have been love marriages for generations. Unable to convey his feelings, he seeks the help of Nokia (Santhanam), a man who earns a living by helping men impress their lovers. Nokia teaches him to be more assertive and flirtatious. George then asks her to be his girlfriend, coincidentally when Kumar was planning to confess his love for Sanjana. She accepts, leaving Kumar heartbroken. Nokia then intervenes and breaks up George and Sanjana. Sanjana and Kumar finally get together but Nokia tries to break them apart after he finds out it’s his sister he has been helping Kumar with. Then, Kumar admits to Sanjana that he manipulated her feelings but then seeks her forgiveness. Then they get back together, with the acceptance of Nokia who sees Kumar’s true love for Sanjana.

Chinnadurai (Major Sundararajan) owns a huge estate that grows and processes tobacco and tea leaves. Due to advancing age, he is concerned about leaving control to his son, Kalyana (Kamal Hassan) and the cunning deceit of his manager, Ramiah (Thengai Srinivasan). Kalyana is immature and naive, and easily manipulated by the cook, Samipillai (V.K. Ramaswamy). He is also deeply in love with Shenbagam (Sridevi). Ramiah, Samipillai, Perumal (Senthamarai)(Shenbagam’s father), and Ligappa (a hired thug) plot to murder Chinnadurai and swindle the property from Kalyana. Ligappa mortally wounds Chinnadurai, and on his death bed he confesses to his son that he was born a twin, abandoned his first wife Rajulakshmi (Puspalatha)and his brother Raman (Kamal Hassan). After his father’s death, he conveys this information to the cook, who tells him he will go to Madras and bring his relatives home. Instead, Samipillai goes to a side show, and hires a married couple Rangamani (Manorama) and Kittu, to pretend to be the lost mother and son. One day the entire gang is in a room, laughing at how they had duped Kalyana and will steal everything. He overhears, and runs to tell the police. They chase after him and throw him off a cliff, observed by Shenbagam, who goes mad. Kalyana’s ghost travels to Madras and confides everything to his brother, Raman. He wants his brother to go home, exact revenge, and take care of Shenbagam…..

The film opens with a flashback showing the family feud between families of Prabhakaran (Vijayakanth) and Bhavani (Indraja). Prabhakaran and Bhavani are in love. The murder of Bhavani’s father, is wrongly accused on SP’s father. He starts to help Bhavani’s family and mortgages his own house to finance her factory with the intention of making it up to them as he still believes that it’s his father who killed Bhavani’s father. But Bhavani is now trying to take revenge for her father’s murder. SP’s mother is now on her deathbed. While in the hospital, his mom tells how his father had a different wife and he should ask them forgiveness. He storms into Bhavani’s house and accuses her uncle (who really killed Bhavni’s dad), also trying to make her understand the truth but she doesn’t believe him. Then Prabhakaran says he doesn’t love her any more and vows that he will never trust a woman by remaining a chronic bachelor forever.
