Vijay (Rajinikanth) is a professional photographer who falls in love with a rich girl,Priya(Sridevi). They marry against her parents’ wishes. But soon the marriage is on the rocks due to the difference in their backgrounds. They have a fight and Priya goes back to her parents’ house. After a few days, Priya stomach aches a lot. Azhagiri (Narain) and his sister Shanmughapriya (Meena) are siblings who live only for each other. Azhagiri is a student, and his sister is a lecturer. Saissa (N. Santhanam) and the crew form his sidekicks, and Valayapatti (M. S. Bhaskar) is their professor who invariable falls quarry to Saissa’s unwitting jokes and intentional pranks. Azhagiri goes to Thambikkotai on an NSS field trip. There he falls in love with Kanaga (Poonam Bajwa), who is the daughter of Amirthalingam (Rajendran), a rich don of the village. Amirthalingam tries to kill government officers who want to repair a damaged bridge that connects the village with the outside world. An elderly Malaysian man goes ballistic and kills several Indian officers in a span of 5 minutes at the Indian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, before collapsing. A tattoo of a love symbol is present at the back of his neck, leading RAW officials to conclude that it is the handiwork of a criminal scientist named Love, whose identity and whereabouts are unknown to anyone except Akhilan Vinod (Vikram), a suspended RAW agent whose wife Meera George (Nayantara), a leading computer analyst at RAW, was killed by Love 4 years ago. RAW chief Malik (Nassar) tracks down Akhilan and convinces him to join the investigation. On viewing the video footage of the attack, Akhilan comes to the conclusion that the elderly Malaysian man had taken a mysterious performance-enhancing drug which allowed him to attack the Indian officials and decides to investigate the matter further in Malaysia. Since Akhilan is under suspension, Malik assigns him as a deputy to a junior RAW agent Aayushi (Nithya Menen), who is officially assigned to handle the case, and the two of them leave for Kuala Lumpur.

The film starts with a flashback. ACP Bose (Karthik) is a sincere police officer happily married. He lives with his parents and younger brother Velu (Arun Vijay). Velu is a college student, and he falls in love with his classmate Anjali (Dhansika). Enters Umapathi (Chandrasekar), the villain who is notorious for settlements and land deals. Anjali comes across Bose when she is on a field trip from her college with her friends. She gets friendly with his daughter Pinky, who tells her that she would get her introduced to her uncle Velu, and they would make a good pair. It turns out that Velu studies in Anjali’s college and soon after, they come to know each other and get close.
Bose investigate the case of Umapathi, whom no one has been able to touch. He is even involved with a land deal involving crores of money which is completely illegal and others including the DIG is involved. When the chairman of the bank who has lent money for the deal demands the money back as the deal has not worked, Umapathi eliminates him.

To prove his love for Meera, Shiva distances himself from her for a year due to a condition put forth to him by her father. However, during the year, he meets Maya and falls in love with her.
