Naachiyaar (Jyothika) is a tough policewoman in Chennai who is put in charge of solving an underage rape case. She tracks down a pregnant Arasi (Ivana), the victim, from her uncle and his goons who plan to get her an abortion. Although Naachiyaar saves Arasi, her uncle and his friends escape and go into hiding. Meanwhile, Naachiyaar’s partner, Feroz arrests the suspect, Kaathu (G.V. Prakash Kumar). He is then sent to a juvenile home, where he tells his story to one of the wardens, who is soft-hearted towards him.
Through flashbacks, we see how Kaathu and Arasi first met. Both are still teenagers from the slums but they do not go to school but are forced to work to help support their respective families. Arasi works as a maid at wealthy families’ homes while Kaathu does odd jobs for a living. One day, while her employers are away, Arasi invites Kaathu into the house where they (impulsively) make love. However, Arasi quickly regrets and pushes Kaathu away, who leaves upset.

Shashi Godbole is a homemaker who makes and sells laddoos as a home-run business. Her husband Satish and daughter Sapna take her for granted, mock her poor English skills, and generally treat her with disrespect, making Shashi feel negative and insecure. However, her young son, Sagar loves her as she is, and her mother-in-law offers her words of sympathy.
Shashi’s older sister Manu, who lives in New York, invites Shashi’s family to her daughter Meera’s wedding to Kevin. It is decided that Shashi will go to New York alone five weeks before the wedding to help Manu organize. Her husband and children will join her as the wedding approaches. During her flight to New York, Shashi is given inspirational advice by a fellow passenger (Amitabh Bachchan in Hindi/Ajith Kumar in Tamil). While Shashi is in New York, she has a traumatic experience at a cafe due to her inability to communicate in English. She is comforted by a French chef Laurent who happened to be queuing up behind her at the cafe.
Using the money she made from selling laddoos, Shashi secretly enrolls in a conversational English class that offers to teach the language in four weeks, showing her resourcefulness at navigating an unfamiliar city alone. The class comprises David Fischer, the instructor; Eva, a Mexican nanny; Salman Khan, a Pakistani cab driver; Yu Son, a Chinese hairstylist; Ramamurthy, a Tamil software engineer; Udumbke, a closeted African-Caribbean man; and Laurent. Shashi quickly becomes a promising and committed student, earns everyone’s respect with her charming behavior and her cuisine, and gains self-confidence. Laurent becomes attracted to Shashi. When he tries to kiss her at the rooftop of a building, Shashi rejects him and runs off, but fails to explain that she is married.

The possessiveness in love can be fatal. Sathish tries to kill his wife Sumi and then himself. He asks her to go with him for a long drive thinking to kill her as chances arrives. Has he succeeded?

Easwaran (Arjun Sarja) is an upright, honest youth who runs a local cable channel in Kumbakonam. He is known to fight for causes of the society and the common man. He enters into fisticuffs with local MLA Poongundran (Sai Kumar) after he exposes his corrupt and greedy ways through his cable TV channel. Fearing trouble, his mother takes him to a saint in Thiruvannamalai. The Swami resembles Easwaran. A sequence of events forces them to swap places. The soft-spoken Swami tries to sort all issues through non-violent means (Gandhian philosophy). Halfway through, Duraisingam (Karunas) dies in the hands of Poongundran and his henchman (Vidharth). In the climax, Easwaran kills Poongundran.

Jayakumar (Sharwanand), commonly known as JK, is a mid-20s man who does not care about family. Instead, he is obsessed with chatting on Facebook, partying, and passing time with friends. At work, he has a group of friends with similar interests. They all plan on going for a New Year Party.

Two years later, JK is shown to be a changed person – very invested in developing, earning money and taking care of his family. He is shown to make business models with an aim of earning a lot of money in a short period of time. He has goals such as getting his two sisters married and ensuring that his brother gets good education. In attempts to start business, he goes to meet a bank manager at his home. As they had to wait for the bank manager to come, JK and his friend notice that the house is not well-maintained and take on the job to organise it. Upon returning, bank manager appreciates their work and tells JK and his friend that it would be very helpful if they could help clean homes regularly. He also suggests that about 150 other flats in his apartment complex would also appreciate this service. This becomes JK’s first business venture. For this, he also ropes in help from his school friend Nithya (Nithya Menen). Together, JK, Nithya, and their friends go on to become very successful with multiple projects.

The story unfolds in a dry barren village. Anbukkarasu (Kishore), the protagonist who wants to excel in his life as a Collector and is an encouraging child, comes across Jeevanandam (Sree Raam), the son of the school teacher Chokkalingam(JayaPrakash), on the first day of school. Jeeva develops instant dislike for Anbu. The good-hearted Anbu tries to befriend Jeeva. However, Jeeva continues to hate Anbu with a passion. Enter Manonmani (Dharini), Jeeva’s cousin, who develops affinity towards Anbu. This only makes Jeeva detest Anbu further. Not only Anbu excels in academics but also in extracurricular activities, contributes to widening the rift between the two.Anbu’s parents have different opinions at Life which develops fight between them and also turns out to be a positive for Jeeva to hurt Anbu further.

Satya (Ileana) is harassed by Vicky (Munna) – son of a politician – who wants to marry her. Satya escapes from home and Sri Krishna falls in love with her the first time he meets her. As the goons and police chase Satya, Sri Krishna protects her and drops her in the house of the politician. He wins Vicky’s confidence. Then, he plays a one sided game with him. At the end, the police that were working with Vicky turn against him and arrest Vicky and his parents. Satya and Sri Krishna get married.

Sivaji and his siblings toil hard at young age to eke out a living. V. K. Ramasamy helps them out. Sivaji becomes a drama artist. Usha Nandini, daughter of Nambiar who frequently visits his dramas, becomes an ardent fan of Sivaji. While initiating about an alliance for his sister, he faces a financial crunch. He borrows money from Nambiar against a wedding proposal for his brother, Srikanth with Usha. But his brother refuses at the last minute. Usha loves Sivaji and they both get married against Nambiar’s wishes. This creates an enmity between Nambiar and Sivaji. Nambiar and his partner Ramdas, have a business conflict. Ramdas attempts on Sivaji’s life as he tries to help the employees. Whether Sivaji survives or not is the rest of the movie.
