Kaanal Neer is based on a feature that appeared in one of the most popular Indian dailies about a family that found shelter under a bridge in Kochi, India. Many of the landless people are in search of seeking shelters to protect their women from the city dwellers to avoid the risk of sexual abuse.

At the end, the police that were working with Vicky turn against him and arrest Vicky and his parents. Satya and Sri Krishna get married.

Middle aged, Sekar (Sathyaraj) is an NRI and he prefers to always travels in Suri’s(Varun) auto, who does all the errands to the former. Prejudging his daughter’s friendship, Sekar arranges for an immediate wedding, which eventually leads to heated arguments in the family. The same day night, Sekar drinks with his close friends at his unused small shop. Once all his friends decide to leave, Sekar insists that Suri get more booze from nearby black-market and on their return, they happen to see a call girl (Anu Mol). Sudden fickleness of Sekar leads to uninvited trouble.

Surya (Prashanth) is a carefree youth living in Malaysia with his brother Chandramohan (Raghuvaran) and sister-in-law Devi (Sukanya). Chandramohan and Devi are childless because of a problem with Chandramohan. Surya falls in love with dancer Priya (Riya Sen) and manages to steal her heart too. Just when things seem happy, a bombshell is dropped by a Sister Mary who tells Surya that he is the father of a small girl Pooja. Pooja must undergo an operation to save her life but insists on seeing her dad before agreeing to the operation. Surya agrees to pose as her dad and is forced to do so on a more permanent basis even after the operation is done. He is driven out of the house and loses Priya, who agrees to wed an earlier suitor, Shyam (Sanjay Asrani). Person who happens to be the dad of Pooja’s mother wants to kill Surya for cheating his daughter but ends up being arrested by police. Second half shifts to Cruise ship, where Chandramohan finds out that Pooja is actually his daughter. The film ends with Surya and Priya reuniting.

A voice-over by RD (Anil Kapoor) introduces the four main characters: Ranvir Singh “Ronny” (Saif Ali Khan) who runs a successful business he inherited from his father. His younger brother Rajiv Singh (Akshaye Khanna) who mooches off of Ronny and is an alcoholic. Ronny is dating an upcoming model Sonia (Bipasha Basu), while his personal assistant Sophia (Katrina Kaif) appears to be secretly in love with him. Ronny is also involved in an intense competition with a rival horse-owner Kabir (Dalip Tahil). The film opens with a murder plot involving a car accident which Ronny narrowly survives. When Ronny loses money in a race because his jockey had been bribed by Kabir, Ronny plants a bomb in the jockey’s car and kills him, showing Ronny to be a ruthless businessman. Later, Ronny also destroys Kabir when the latter offers him money to buy his business, which is in debt.

Kodishwari, a 17-year-old girl is a topper at her board examination but, unfortunately, she fails at her NEET examinations. She decides to take justice into her hands as she goes up against the politicians and the education system.

Vasudevan aka Vasu (Vishal) is a Coimbatore-based moneylender and also the heir to the Kovai Group, a cloth manufacturing conglomerate, until he was disowned by his mother and matriarch of his joint family Rajalakshmi (Raadhika) due to some misunderstanding. He meets a rich girl Divya (Shruthi Haasan) at a mall, who soon falls in love with him for his good nature. One day, Vasu saves the Additional Superintendent of Police for Coimbatore District Sivakkozhundhu (Sathyaraj) and his wife (Aishwarya) from a group of thugs who work for Anna Thandavam (Mukesh Tiwari), a Pollachi-based businessman and contract killer who kills anyone to acquire their land and money. As Sivakkozhundhu was transferred to Coimbatore district to capture Anna Thandavam, the latter had planned to kill him. Anna Thandavam also plans to illegally grab land sold to a village temple by Vasu’s late father. These two incidents cause enmity between Vasu and Anna Thandavam.
