An archaeologist gets involved in a situation where the brother of a girl holds him captive because he suspects him to be the girl’s lover. Although he escapes, he is soon arrested for her kidnap.

Billu (Jayam Ravi) is the son of Mudaliar (Vijayakumar). Mudaliar is much loved and respected by people of his locality, and Billu is almost like a foster son to every person in the locality.

He falls in love with Mano (Bhumika Chawla), who also eventually happens to reside opposite their house, with her loudmouthed sub-inspector mother (Rekha). With the responsibilities of a brother to get his sisters married, Sriram leaves for Libya on a job received through Ilango’s parents. Before he leaves, he tells Ilango that Mano and himself are in love, and asks Ilango to look after his lover until he is back. Ilango swallows his love secret for the sake of friendship. Meanwhile, Bhumika’s mother arranges for her to get married to Vijay Adhiraj for his wealth. At this juncture, Mano and Ilango lie that they are already married. They both leave their parents, and Ilango starts earning to support Mano. Finishing his job assignment, Sriram returns, only to give yet another family responsibility as an excuse. He apologizes for not being able to marry Mano as he is a tight corner to marry somebody else for the sake of his sister’s marriage. Later, Mano leaves to Mumbai after a job opportunity. Ilango’s parents come to know the truth that he and Mano are not married. They accept them. Radhika knows Mano as the girl Ilango loved, but he would not accept it since Mano might think wrong of him. Later in the train station, things turn plates and Mano comes to know that she is the girl he loved and accepts him.

Siva (S. J. Surya) is an investigative scribe who shares a live-in relationship with rich and bratty Madhu (Nila). They have hot-headed run-ins and even hotter patch-ups. Things come to a head when Madhu starts a restaurant with a brother of her friend. Nosy and envious Siva cannot take it, and this causes a split between the duo. Fun starts as the fantasy element appears in the form of their apparitional alter egos. Eventually they come together, but there is plenty of over-the-top entertainment aimed at a post-teen youth audience. Anbe Aaruyire features the memories of each other in a human lookalike appearances. These memories remind them of their good times and the inner love for each other, which help in their reunion.

The film is based on the philosophy that dreams will be fulfilled, presenting Jai as having a fetish for writing a diary, while changing things that go wrong in his life to have a happy ending. He comes across a pretty girl, played by Shazahn Padamsee, who he is intimidated by and cannot build up the courage to tell her his feelings. Meanwhile, Vijay Vasanth also takes a liking to her and uses a different method to convey his feelings. Whom the girl falls for forms the crux of the story.
