Satyam (Prabhu Deva) is the carefree son of businessman, owner of Satyam mills Lakshmipathi (Moulee). Disappointed Lakshmipathi asks Satyam to spend three months alone on the streets of Chennai to learn the value of money. He would have no money and could not use the information of who he is and his education (paid by his father) to gain favour or make a living from anyone.
So Satyam sets out and from the very start, meets Divya (Laila), who plays an overexuberant youth girl, who cries or laughs constantly. Bala takes undue advantage of this trust and continues to meet Sheela on the sly till one day Bhanu stumbles upon the truth. This breach of trust breaks Bhanu which eventually leads to her death. An unrepentant Bala takes this as an opportunity and proposes to marry Sheela. His mother is shattered but gives in to his demands. An elated Bala rushes to Sheela only to find her missing! Elangovan (Thangar Bachan) is a school teacher in Chidambaram who is a jack of all trades but master of none. He spends time with friends boozing, gambling and trying out new business that always fails.
His wife is Thenmozhi (Navya Nair), and they have two daughters. Elangovan’s father (Pyramid Natarajan) and father-in-law (R. Sundarrajan) try to make him responsible towards his family, but our man refuses to take up anything serious in life. On everyone’s advice, Elangovan goes to Sabarimala after taking Vrath but returns to continue as Sanyasi without being least bothered about his duties towards family. Fearing his wife and relatives, he decides to join a mutt, but there also he is unable to sustain.
In the meantime Thenmozhi works hard to educate her children. She is mentally prepared to live without her husband when Elangovan returns and pleads with her as usual. But this time Thenmozhi is not willing to pardon him and she ignores him. What happens then forms the climax and message of the film.

The story revolves around an ego clash between father and son. Puli (Sundar C) is a local rowdy and the son of a math teacher Vedhukannu (Prakash Raj). Vedhukannu hates his son for being a rowdy and not being proficient in math. As part of a flashback, it is shown that young Puli was very good in physics, but his father, being a math teacher, wanted him to excel in math, which he was unable to do. As a result of repeated physical and mental abuse, Puli takes the wrong route to grow up. In the meantime, rival gangs and police try to kill him, but he is accidentally saved by his half-sister, a daughter from an affair his father had. Puli helps his half-sister in return for her unexpected help and vouches for her safety. The rival gangs kill her and put the blame on his father. How Puli brings the truth to light and unites with his family completes the rest of the movie.

Prabhakar (Jiiva) is a Tamil teacher in a private school in west Mambalam area of Chennai, who leads a lonely life in a lodge. He is frustrated and even tries to commit suicide, in a system where knowing your mother tongue and teaching it is looked down upon by a society craving for material benefits and imbalance in pay structure.
The narration is mostly in a series of flashbacks. Prabhakar, for no fault of his, is at the receiving end, terrorized by cops and on the run after killing a railway booking clerk in a fit of rage. He roams all around the country and joins some saadhus, high on pot and also grows his hair long and keeps a shaggy beard. Finally he wants to exorcise the devils within and at gun point kidnaps a television anchor Yuvaan-Suang(Karunas), who records his life story, where he confesses to killing 22 people in cold blood.

A youth in need for money to get his eye-sight back on track uses the keen observation skills his limited vision provides as consolation to his advantage as he blackmails his way past two suspects in the murder of a girl in his neighborhood. The story unravels to show if his purpose gets served and if the murderer is found guilty.

Surya (Sanjeev) is the son of a local dada (Adithya Menon) and studies at the Chengalpet Matriculation School. His mother, who is separated from her husband, wants him to grow up as a model citizen. Unfortunately, he has more of his father’s genes and gets expelled for beating up a teacher. Surya, who is attached to his mother, gives a promise that he will not take the path to violence again, and is admitted to Lake View School in Ooty, described by its principal (Thalaivasal Vijay) as the “best school in south Asia”. Surya is looked down by his snooty seniors led by Rohit (Rohit Rathod) and his gang. The only person who stands with him is Babloo (Karthik Sabesh), and the principal’s daughter Tanya (Riya Bamniyal), who has a soft corner for him. Under extreme provocation, Surya keeps his cool as he tries to live up to his mother’s expectations. However, he breaks down after Babloo is murdered and goes on a revenge spree. The film ends on a tragic note, as the message of the film is conveyed.
