Amid tension in 1980s India, three friends of different faiths unite in a noble yet dangerous effort to save hundreds in their town.

Cassie Salazar and Luke Morrow couldn’t be more different. Sharp-witted Cassie works nights at a bar in Austin, Texas to make ends meet while pursuing her dream of becoming a singer/songwriter. Luke is an Army trainee, about to ship out for duty, who finds comfort in the unswerving discipline of service. But a chance encounter at Cassie’s bar changes the course of both their lives. Cassie is drowning in medical bills after being diagnosed with diabetes.

The film revolves around the family of Jaikodi Thevar, who has two wives. Jaikodi is a respected landowner whose family has helped develop the village for generations. However, his first wife Sevanamma (Viji Chandrasekhar), and her elder brother Veera (Vela Ramamoorthy) control the local gangs and are feared by the villagers. As a result, Jaikodi prefers to live with his second wife and her children (Parthiban (Kathir) and Prema. Because of her husband’s preference of his second wife, Sevanamma dislikes her and her children. Veera blames his brother-in-law’s second wife and her children of destroying his sister’s life and hates them too. The only member of the first wife’s family that accepts the second wife’s family is Jaikodi’s drunkard eldest son, Boologarasa (Kalaiyarasan). However, he is often powerless against his mother and maternal uncle.

The film deals with the social stigma associated with a handicapped girl in a rural milieu. Murali is a potter by profession. He has a sister, who is born dumb. Murali has to struggle a lot as the handicraft industry is a dying industry and a good amount of money is taken away by his father (Manivannan), who is a drunkard and a gambler. But, he tries to hide his sorrows by having fun with his sister and servant (Vadivelu), who is also his trusted friend. He is in love with his neighbour (Meena), a weaver. He wants to get his sister married to a noble man. But many reject her as she is dumb. Finally, one man agrees to marry his sister but on condition that Muralimust offer dowry. Murali then sells many things dearer to him to get money for the dowry. But, that money is taken away by his father and the marriage falls through. Yet Vadivelu offers to marry his sister without asking dowry and Murali goes home along with Vadiveluto convey this happy news to his sister. But it was too late as the sister commits suicide. Murali as a penance decides to marry a handicapped girl.

A girl grows up reading the books of a writer whom she absolutely loves and idolizes. Fate brings them together but she doesn’t express herself. Separated, they meet again under strange circumstances.

It is a story of a guy named Kuruvi (Vidharth), who does small crimes. He falls in love with a girl named Krishnaveni (Sanchita Shetty), who, on finding him to be a criminal, rejects him. Kuruvi’s elder sister got married to Krishnaveni’s relative, and they become close again. As fate would have it, Kuruvi was falsely accused of stealing the temple’s jewels. He eventually kills the one who stole the jewels and goes to jail. The movie ends with Kuruvi back in the same temple and Krishnaveni requesting him to come home.

This is ridiculed by his father (Jayaprakash). Ganesh’s life takes a turn when he comes across Sandhya (Sanchita Padukone). She is a friend of his sister, who comes on a vacation to the village. He admires her beauty and falls for her. When Ganesh gathers guts to open his heart to Sandhya, enters Valli (Suhasini), Ganesh’s uncle’s (Ilavarasu) daughter. Fearing her father will get her married to a local goon Durai (Bose Venkat), she decides to marry Ganesh. Suddenly, Sandhya falls ill, and Ganesh takes her to the hospital. He is shocked when the doctor (Prakash Raj) informs that she has pancreatic cancer and will die in a few months. Ganesh, in a bid to keep her happy until her death, marries her and comes home. He incurs his father’s wrath and is driven out of the house. However, a sudden twist in the plot causes the movie to end on an emotional note.
