A Man Happens to stop a caste fight in a village,the villagers ask him to remain and help with their conflicts.thus inciting the wrath of the biggest Bad man in the village, a man who killed his own brother for marrying into a different caste. His son (Vineeth) wants to build a factory, which he wont allow this makes his son ally with the bad man in the village.

Vijayakumar is the rich head of the village (Manicheran Gounder) with his wife Manjula and his beautiful daughter Srija. He is a person of who strictly adheres to the caste. Sarathkumar is also a rich landlord in the same village. Though the father of both Vijayakumar and Sarathkumar are one but Sarathkumar’s mother was from a lower caste. So Vijayakumar always ignores and berates Sarathkumar. Their father, before dying divided his entire property equally between the 2 families. Yet Vijayakumar’s family gets first respect within the circle. The house of their father was equally split into exact 2 halves. Anandbabu who is a relative of Sarathkumar comes to meet him in the village and falls in love with Srija. Vijayakumar comes to know about this and he makes arrangements for Srija’s marriage with K.S.Ravikumar, son of Nagesh. At the end Vijayakumar becomes a good person with the advice of Manjula and a happy end of Anandbabu marrying Srija.

Radharavi is a very rich businessman and has industry with lot of workers. Radharavi bribes the workers union leader Ponambalam if any protest rises from the workers union. Ponambalam cheats the workers by telling the workers that the salary will increase by 5%, but they don’t give up till 7% increase and again the workers stand on the ground protesting. Meanwhile, Ponambalam goes inside alone and gets brandy from Radharavi and again comes out telling now at least 6% increase in salary is agreed by Radharavi and thus tries to settle the protest. Here Sharat Kumar interferes and says that 20% increase is needed. For this whole worker union support Sharat Kumar and make him the leader. Sharat Kumar has a sister who is a close friend to Meena, the daughter of Radharavi. Meena loves Sharat Kumar seeing his good character. Radharavi is very angry with Sharat Kumar already, but tries to change him to be friendly and be like Ponambalam. Radharavi invites Sharat Kumar to the party as Sharat is the new union leader. At the party, Sharat is given a big car and already was given a good clothes to wear for the party. Sharat likes the car and takes the car key and drives the car and damages the car. Sharat also throws away the clothes and says that he prefers to be a poor man till others are given the same offer and comes out of the party. Radharavi has a son who finished studies and come to support him in business. The son of Radharavi falls in love with Sharat Kumar’s sister.

Saravanan (Sarathkumar) is a bus driver in a college. He also takes care of an orphanage which is home to numerous children and old-aged people. Indhu (Nikita Thukral), a student of the college, tries to woo Saravanan, while rowdies and other antisocial elements in the city are found dead. Chakravarthy (Mahadevan), the politico who loses his right-hand man, vows revenge and realizes Saravanan, who killed his henchmen, is an Army Major whom he and his men had eliminated years ago in a scuffle over his sister’s (Saranya) land. How Saravanan fends off the evil elements and unites with Indhu forms the rest of the story.

Sharat Kumar wants to become a high ranking policeman and is also a hard working man who fights against bad people. But Sharat Kumar’s father doesn’t like Sharat fighting with people and always quarrels with him to not interfere in other people’s problems. Sharat, while travelling in a bus, saves Heera from bad people. Heera gets a file of Sharat in the bus and later goes to Sharat’s house to return the file. Heera finds out that she was the school time girlfriend of Sharat and knows Sharat’s father who used to give food to anybody who came to his house. Heera tries to learn cooking and help Sharat’s father, but spoils the whole kitchen. Sharat and Heera falls in love and marry. Meanwhile, Sharat gets appointed as a commissioner and tries to deal with a riot. During the riot, Sharat shoots at an innocent man who accidentally came in the front of the riot. The news comes in the newspapers. Sharat’s father, after reading the news, goes the area where the victim lived with his wife. Sharat’s father helps the victim’s wife Sharanya and her child. Sharat, now staying in another house, finds his father is missing from the house. Sharat encounters a new politician enemy who was behind the previous riot, which made Sharat kill the innocent man. Sharat’s father and Sharanya become witnesses for a policeman’s death due to rowdies of the politician. Sharat, investigating the policeman’s death, finds out evidence to the killing of an old man and Sharanya, but doesn’t know his father is the witness. Sharat enters Sharanya’s house and accidentally finds out his father is living with Sharanya and he while leaving the area, gets attacked by rowdies of the politician. Now Sharat’s father helps in hospital and takes care of Sharat. Later all of them stay in one place. Now at night, the politician and his rowdies try to kill Sharat’s family. During the attack, the house’s electricity goes off. Sharat also enters finally to the house and a fight in the darkness happens, with Sharat finally defeating the politician villain and his rowdies.

The film portrays the story of Ravi, a bandmaster by profession, who leads a happy and self contented life, until he falls in love with a minister’s daughter.

Janakiraman is a 1997 Tamil language Comedy & Drama film directed by Sundar C. The film features Sarathkumar and Nagma in lead roles whilst Rambha, Goundamani and Manivannan play supporting roles.
