Rekha, a sex worker, tries to protect a 12-year-old girl named Nandhini from a life of prostitution. However, both of them soon go on the run from four dangerous men who wish to keep them down.

Angry young man Velu Thondaiman, affectionately known as “Thambi” fights against all types of evils in the society. He keeps running into Sankara Pandian, a political henchman who rules the city with violence. Thambi is determined to overcome Sankara Pandian’s activities in the society and his fearless attitude brings fear into the face of Sankara Pandian’s gang. Thambi thwarts Sankara Pandian’s terrorizing plans with the help of his close associates. At this very moment, a flashback unravels how Sankara Pandian’s gang kills Thambi’s family after Thambi identifies the killer as Sankara Pandian’s brother Saravana Pandian. As the Police now close in on the thugs by means of “encounters”, Sankara Pandian starts riots within the city to topple the internal government, so he can achieve power as a member of parliament. For astrological reasons, a father (Azhagan Thamizhmani) has to leave his son Rudran (Arya) in Kashi for 14 years. 14 years later, repenting his act, he goes with his daughter in search of the boy. He finds him there but is shocked to learn he has become an Aghori, a fierce and tigerish sadhu. He brings him back to Tamil Nadu as he had promised the boy’s mother. The story takes a turn here and introduces us to the world of physically and mentally challenged beggars, a world controlled by the cruel Thandavan (Rajendran). Hamsavalli (Pooja Umashankar) is a blind girl who was with a group of street actors, but on one day was forcefully separated from her troupe and made to join the beggars controlled by Thandavan. Soon, she becomes a victim of his cruelty. Meanwhile, Rudran leaves his house to find his place in a small cave near a hill temple. One day, Rudran’s mother comes to plead with him to come back to their house but is unsuccessful. Hamsavalli tries to convince Rudran to return to his house, but fails. Thandavan makes a deal with another man of the same profession to sell some of his beggars to him for a tidy profit. He forcefully takes the beggars away and returns with a man with a deformed face trying to force Hamsavalli to marry him for 10 lakhs worth of money. Thandavan orders his men to bring Hamsavalli, but they take her to Rudran. Rudran kills the new man and is arrested, but is soon let go. This agitates Thandavan. Hamsavalli seeks protection and solace from the church, but Thandavan finds her and tortures her as she refused to marry the deformed man, thus making him lose out on a good amount of money. Thandavan beats up Hamsavalli. Rudran is shown wounded in his forehead, with blood oozing out. In a flashback, Thandavan appears face-to-face against Rudran and fights him, the result of the fight being the wound. Rudran kills Thandavan. Hamsavalli finds her way to Rudran and beseeches him to free her from her misery and the earthly life. Rudran slashes her throat and performs her last rites. In the final scene of the movie, Rudran returns to his guru in Kashi.

Chandru (Arya) and Bigilu (Lal) are close friends. Chandru is an expert auto driver and racer, while Bigilu is a mechanic expert at customizing autos to run at the dream speed of 130 km/h. Pichchai aka Son of Gun (John Vijay) is the chief of a rival group who wants to outsmart the duo. Chandru, the race champ, tries to settle the dues for his auto through a race, which is almost a cakewalk for him. He and Bigilu challenge Son of Gun to a race, and a date is fixed. Bigilu, meanwhile, introduces Chandru to his sister, who runs a biriyani shop. Chandru is attracted to her daughter Rani (Pooja), and woos her. The affair grows stronger, and the two end up having sex. However, Chandru is not interested in long-term commitment and tells Rani, who curses him and moves away. On the D-day, Chandru is distracted by the memories of his love affair and loses the race and his auto. Later, Bigilu comes to know about the affair. The subplot of a smuggler’s search for missing pearls adds flavour to the proceedings. The unpredictable and fun-filled climax puts everything in order.

The movie begins with Jeeva (Ajith Kumar), a driving instructor, leading a happy life with his mother (Sujatha). He also fell in love with Swapna (Pooja Umashankar) after several mishaps. Sujatha hides the Jeeva truth that his father (Nizhalgal Ravi), was murdered by a dada named Manthiram (Babu Antony). The mother, much against the boy’s wish, packs off Jeeva’s twin brother, Guru (also Ajith Kumar) with a family who offer to adopt him, who had been witness to the murderer from a close quarter, to a distant town. He escapes from the family and goes to Tuticorin and grows to become a gangster there.
When Jeeva visits Tuticorin, he comes across his elder brother, Guru a.k.a. Thala. Seizing the opportunity, the elder brother kidnaps the younger one and decides to go as the driving instructor to Chennai. Initially, he plans to take revenge on his mother for packing him off from their house at a very young age. He hurts her at every step and even plans to sell off all their property.
