A woman’s illegitimate father tries to gain the approval of her new family.

Saraswathi “Yamuna” (Suvalakshmi), one of two daughters of an Orthodox father (Poornam Vishwanathan), comes to Madras for finishing her studies. Major Madhavan (Prakash Raj) is the husband of Yamuna’s elder sister Ganga (Rohini), who infatuates about Yamuna after seeing a photo in a letter sent by her. Meanwhile, Yamuna meets Jeevanantham (Ajith Kumar) in a bus, who gives his ticket to her as she had not taken her own. Later one day, Jeeva decides to express his love to Yamuna by writing “1 4 3” (the number of letters in “I love you”) in a letter and giving it to her, but he witnesses a group beating a boy who did the same thing, so he crumples the letter, and it is found by Yamuna, who realizes his love. One day when they were walking together, Jeeva tries to remove the dirt from Yamuna’s eyes, and he kisses her. Yamuna is angry with him. Jeeva senses it and gets wet in the rain and gets a cold. Hearing this, Yamuna meets him. Jeeva expresses that she is the only medicine to him, and he needs her. Yamuna promises she will marry him. On Yamuna’s birthday, Jeeva jumps into her house and presents her a puppy. One day, fearing that Yamuna’s father might not marry him to Yamuna, he decides to marry her in a register office, but Yamuna refuses and Jeeva leaves.

The course of life runs differently for three middle-class women who have made several sacrifices to survive in a patriarchal world.

Two music directors Bharathi (Vijayakumar) and Kannan (Nassar) used to be friends and composed music together. After Kannan has a fight with the director of their movie, Bharathi who feels embarrassed decided to split from Kannan and compose the music for the film by himself. He offers Kannan the chance to reconcile after this movie. Kannan rejects this and instead gives details about the fallout to the newspaper and Bharathi ends up losing the movie deal. A war begins and both music directors hate each other and can’t even stand to hear the other’s name. Bharathi is very successful while Kannan, who is basically unknown, drinks away his sorrows.

Bhanumathy (Padmapriya) gets married to hockey player Rathnavel (Nithin Sathya). He married Bhanu by hiding the fact that he is impotent and a recovering alcoholic. She later adopts a child. With the baby’s arrival, Rathnavel tells her that the child reminds him about his weakness, and all hell breaks loose when Bhanu realizes her husband’s true colors. Rathnavel beats up Bhanu until she is almost unconscious. A few days later, she files for a divorce and stays with her parents. Bhanu meets Ravichandran (Prithviraj), a happy-go-lucky guy who is a friend of her brother (Raaghav). He proposes to her, and they later get married, leading a happy love life. Rathnavel, who had vowed to make life miserable for Bhanu, returns. He kidnaps her and places a cadaver in her home before faking an accident with a cooking gas cylinder. After that, Rathnavel brings Bhanu to his bungalow and locks her in a soundproof room. When Ravi goes to Rathnavel’s house, a series of clues lead him to find Bhanu. After distracting Rathnavel, Ravi calls the police and rescues Bhanu. Rathnavel is sent to a mental asylum where he later hangs himself. This seems to be a true story which happened in Andhra Pradesh in the late 1990s and Rathnavel’s (name changed) family members are there in Kakinada, but the movie ends with a happy note with Ravi and a pregnant Bhanu happily married.

Karthikeyan (Arjun) is a photographer-editor working in Indian Express. Chitra (Meena) is a bank employee. Both reside in Navi Mumbai. Karthik meets Chitra while opening a bank account. While returning home, he again meets her in a train. He offers his seat, but she does not want to accept it. During a train strike, he invites her to travel in an auto to reduce expenses, but she declines. When Chitra hesitated to travel in the same train with Karthik, he became angry and explained that he talked to her because both are from the same locality, both are Tamilians, and he promises her that he will never talk to her anymore. After some days Chitra voluntarily talks to him. Karthik, in return, accompanies her to a police station to get back her snatched handbag. Karthik invites Chitra to his home to meet his parents.
Karthik’s parents like Chitra and all become friends. Karthik’s mother requests Chitra to tell Karthik to get married. When she conveys his parent’s wish, Karthik explains about his wife Aruna (Jyothika), who died in a train accident. Karthik learns that Chitra’s husband Srikanth (Ramesh Aravind) died in the same train accident. Chitra adopted a boy, Shiva, as per her husband’s wish. Karthik’s parents want them to get married.
Shiva moves close to Karthik and his family, while Chitra tries to prevent relations with Karthik. Karthik’s father (Nagesh) understands Karthik’s interest towards Chitra. He asks her to marry Karthik. She refuses, and once for all, avoids Karthik. Karthik understood her intention and stayed away from her. Chitra meanwhile gets confused regarding second marriage due to the trouble given by her neighbour’s husband and Shiva’s passion for Karthik. Chitra’s neighbour once attempts to rape her; she manages to escape. Karthik, who heard about it, attacks the man for misbehaving, and makes him vacate Mumbai.
Chitra decides to marry Karthik for herself and her son. She plans to meet him at the station to express her decision. While returning home, she meets her mother-in-law (Lakshmi), who at one time opposed the marriage of her son Srikanth with her. Chitra’s mother-in-law requests her to come and live with her as she is very alone after her husband’s death. Chitra leaves with her mother-in-law. She has not dared to meet Karthik and she leaves without informing him. Karthik and his family are very much disappointed by this.
After some months, Chitra panics on seeing a news about a bomb blast at Mumbai Indian Express and verifies Karthik’s safety. Karthik leaves for Coonoor on an official assignment. There he meets Chitra with her mother-in-law. Chitra introduces him to her and tells about Aruna’s death in the same train accident where Srikanth died. On hearing this, Chitra’s mother-in-law invites Karthik to have lunch with them the next day. This delights Shiva. He eagerly waits for Karthik and leaves school well before, but is stuck in a traffic jam for a long time. Meanwhile, Chitra explains about her decision to marry him, and later changed it as her mother-in-law requested her to live with her. Karthik leaves without meeting Shiva to catch the train. This disappoints Shiva. When Chitra tried to console him, he blames her that she did not keep up the promise that he, Chitra, Karthik, and his parents to live together. Chitra’s mother-in-law hears this, understood the meaning of it and she realised the mistake she made. She catches Karthik at the station and requests him to marry Chitra. Karthik and Chitra leave for Mumbai and get married, which delights Shiva and Karthik’s parents.

Gunasekaran is an ardent social worker, also a student of London school of Economics and Mallika is a physiotherapist, and the pair meet up by the sea. Guna tried his hand to impress Mallika, does he win her heart? The third pair is Varun and Anjana and starts in the year 2016 and then flashes back to 2012.

Raghu and shanti are divorced couple which sparks problems between Suriya(shanti’s brother) and Vijay(Raghu’s brother).

Hari (Shaam) and Raji (Sneha) are cousins. Hari gets a job in Chennai. He then comes to Chennai and instead of staying at Raji’s home he rents an apartment with his colleague Vivek. Raji doesn’t like this and refuses to come to Hari’s house until he visits her place. But they meet and catch up with each other now and then. Meanwhile, Hari meets another girl, Swapna (Jaya Re), who plays pranks on people just for fun. During one such prank Hari and Swapna end up becoming friends. They both work in rival Ad agency.While doing a project Hari selects his cousin Raji’s photo (of her eyes) over Swapna’s which makes her upset. But to reconcile their friendship Hari sends Swapna’s pics to Miss Chennai competition which she eventually wins. After a few days Hari, Raji and Swapna coincidentally meet in shopping place where Hari ends up fighting with a person who misbehaved with Raji. Raji gets angry and walks away. Hari drops off Swapna to her house where she proposes to Hari, to which Hari refuses. But he thanks her for making him realise that he is actually in love with his cousin, Raji. Hari apologises to Swapna. Raji goes to attend her childhood friend’s marriage and when she comes back brings along her friend’s brother and also her friend, Bharath (Rajiv Krishna).Bharath had proposed to a girl and when she rejected him, he took to drinking. To make him forget his grief Raji brings him to Chennai. Hari first mistakes that Raji is in love with Bharath.On his birthday, he asks her if she loves Bharath and when she clears off his misunderstanding, he immediately proposes to her. She rejects him.
