The story describes the struggle of a young villager Kangeyan (played by Rajinikanth) to receive justice for his brother’s murder. Manickam falls in love with Mallika, the daughter of Pannaiar. Mallika’s marriage is arranged with Dorai (played by Raghuvaran), but she refuses and declares her love for Mannikam. Kangeyan gets them married in the village. The priest pretends to have divine powers and uses the superstitious beliefs of the villagers to kill Manickam. Kangeyan, not wanting to see Mallika as a widow, decides to get her married again to Pandian, a cart driver who was her childhood friend. Krishnasamy (Arjun Sarja), a respected man, and Samiyappan (Thilakan) are in a feud for several years. Amudha (Nikitha), Krishnasamy’s daughter, hates her father because she thinks that he is a killer.
A few years before, Krishnasamy was a tea master with his friend Kandhasamy (Goundamani). After his father’s death, Krishnasamy had a lot of responsibility. He fell in love with Sindhamani (Roja). In the meantime, Samiyappan, a local don, cancelled his engagement because Sindhamani’s father promised Sindhamani to his son (Raja). One day, Krishnasamy ridiculed Samiyappan in a politic function. This humiliation irks Samiyappan, so his henchmen burnt Krishnasamy’s house and Krishnasamy’s brother who was in the house died. In anger, Krishnasamy entered Samiyappan’s house and fought against his henchmen but an honest police officer (Nagesh) arrested him before he committed murder. The police officer gave him a mission: stopping Samiyappan’s illegal activities.

Dhinakar (Jai Akash), hailing from a middle-class family, and Nancy (Madhumitha), a software engineer and sole breadwinner for her family, are neighbors who are in love with each other. However, their dreams of getting married are shattered when their self-centered parents decide on proposals of their own choice. Notwithstanding the overbearing parental pressures, Nancy marries Victor (Prakash Raj), a multimillionaire businessman, while Dhinakar marries his cousin – but not before the lead pair enters into a sly pact. Lingaa 2014
A dam in the village of Solaiyur, which is the lifeline of that village is under assessment for structural integrity by the Public Works Department. The dam inspector (Ponvannan) assesses that the dam is still strong 75 years after it was built. Later that evening, he is hanged to death by the corrupt local MP Nagabhushan (Jagapathi Babu), who wants the dam destroyed for his own benefit. The dying dam inspector throws a pen drive containing details about the proposed plan to destroy the dam into an abandoned Shiva temple near the dam and warns the village head Karunakara (K. Viswanath) that the temple has to be opened as soon as possible, after which he passes away. Karunakara and the villagers are of the opinion that the temple can only be opened by the descendant of Raja Lingeswaran (Rajnikanth), who built the dam as well as the Shiva temple. Lakshmi (Anushka Shetty), the granddaughter of Karunakara and a television journalist, goes on a search to find the Raja’s descendant. She soon manages to find the descendant, whose name is Lingeswaran aka Lingaa (Rajnikanth). Lingaa is the grandson of Raja Lingeswaran, but is a petty thief with his family having now fallen on hard times. He holds a grudge against his grandfather, feeling that he had brought down his family into poverty by squandering all his wealth and hence refuses to go with Lakshmi to Solaiyur. However, Lakshmi implicates Lingaa in a robbery, as a result of which the police pursue Lingaa. Lingaa is forced to accept Lakshmi’s invitation to avoid getting caught and travels with her to Solaiyur.

Pandi (Raghava Lawrence) does menial jobs in Dubai and saves every penny he earns and sends it to his family in Usilampatti. A flashback reveals that he was a carefree youth, who is often chided by his father Sundarapandi (Nasser). His elder brother Rajapandi (Sriman) is the blue-eyed boy of his father. However Pandi’s mother Sivagami (Saranya Ponvannan) showers all her love and affection on him. His mother has a dream of building her own house in her land. Rajapandi says Pandi to go to a marriage ceremony, while on the train he met Bhuvana (Sneha), a cop’s daughter in the other village and after a sequence of events romance blossoms between them. one afternoon Bhuvana gives all the money she has on her person to Pandi and convinces him to take her out to lunch at a restaurant. After eating his lunch, he went outside to wash his hands and saw his sister and her boyfriend having a conversation. He chases the motorbike on Auto leaving Bhuvana stuck with the bill and no money, having given it all to Pandi. When Pandi eventually catches up with the boyfriend, the boyfriend tells him that they are seriously in love, and he’s going to be coming over to their place with his parents to ask for her hand in marriage. Everything was going well until a couple days later Sundarapandi want the money to buy the jewelry. Pandi’s family receives a shock as Pandi Mother can’t find the money they have saved up to pay for the wedding. Since Pandi is already a known trouble maker and has been to jail already, the father blames him and kicks him out of the house. This happens in front of Bhuvana, who has come to see where he has been the last few days and why he ran away at the restaurant. This incident with his father accusing him of taking the money has convinced her that he took her money the other day and ran and also just using her. In the end, it turns out, his elder brother Rajapandi has run away from the house with his lover and with the money.
A dejected father is consoled by Pandi, who borrows money from a private money-lender and completes the wedding. Meanwhile, Pandi tries to make amends with Bhuvana, but she won’t hear any of it. Pandi’s father, seeing the argument, went over and told Bhuvana the truth and how he misjudged his son and it wasn’t him that took the money. The following day, Pandi’s father went to Bhuvan’s house to ask her father to fix a marriage between Pandi and Bhuvana. Bhuvana’s father upon hearing this is furious. He is the local police inspector and knows all about Pandi’s past. He refuses to marry his daughter to a criminal. Bhuvana’s father arrange a marriage for her, but she went to Sundarapandi to say she will die before merry another person than Pandi. Pandi snatched Bhuvana from her house and take her to her father police station and ask her father to approve. Bhuvana father gets angry and says she is not his daughter anymore and he will think his daughter eloped and lost. Pandi merry Bhuvana and as police protection Bhuvana father watch her getting married.
Determined to pay back the loan and help his family overcome their financial constraint, Pandi decides to go abroad and work as conservancy staff. He manages to stabilize his family with his earnings. However, on his return, he is shocked to find his mother dead. Coming to know that it was no natural death, he decides to avenge the killers. Kicha Vayasu, a man known as the Collector, returns to his childhood city of Nagercoil to demolish an old school, which he recognises as his former school. His reminiscences of his school days in Nagercoil form the main theme of the film.
The film then transitions to when Kicha is a 16-year-old boy. After Nirmala, a teacher whom Kicha has a crush on becomes the headmistress of their school, Kicha, who often teases people around him, becomes very well-behaved towards Nirmala. Because of this, he often garners her support. However, Kicha, being his usual self, begins leading a group of errant boys who perform various misdemeanors around their town. This includes stealing and selling dishes from the school and eating in hotel restaurants without paying the bill.
Kicha and his friends are finally caught when they attempt to escape after not paying a hotel bill. The hotel owner thrashes them so thoroughly that the other boys inform the owner on Kicha and claim that he taught them to do such things. When the boys’ parents are notified of this, many become angry, claiming that Kicha has misled their children and made them wayward.
